Monstera

Monstera deliciosa
Commonly called the "Swiss Cheese Plant" for its distinctively perforated leaves, Monstera deliciosa is a tropical plant native to the rainforests of Central America. Known for its lush, vibrant green foliage with natural splits and holes, it adds an exotic vibe to interiors. This vining plant can grow large and develops aerial roots, allowing it to climb if provided with a support like a moss pole. With the right conditions, Monstera can produce edible fruit that has a taste reminiscent of pineapple and banana, although fruiting indoors is rare.

Care Tips

Watering:
Water once the top inch of soil is dry. It’s sensitive to overwatering, so ensure it’s not left in soggy soil.
Sunlight:
Thrives in bright, indirect light; can tolerate low light but with slower growth. Avoid direct sun, which can damage leaves.
Soil:
Prefers a well-draining, slightly acidic potting mix rich in organic matter.

Suitability

Indoor/Outdoor:
Primarily an indoor plant but can grow outdoors in tropical climates.
Climate:
Prefers high humidity; occasional misting is beneficial, especially in dry climates.
